The treatment for gynecomastia, which is the enlargement of the breasts in man, can be done with medication or surgery, but it should always be directed to combat its cause.
In the case of gynecomastia that occurs in adolescence, treatment is not always necessary because breast augmentation tends to disappear over time. One natural treatment option for gynecomastia is to do exercises that strengthen the chest and slim down, burning all the localized fat.
Aesthetic treatment with appliances that eliminate fat and improve the firmness of the skin can also be used and should be directed by the physiotherapist.
Gynecomastia Remedies
In gynecomastia caused by an imbalance between the male and female hormones, treatment with medication is the main option to try to regulate and stabilize the hormones. An example of a remedy for gynecomastia is Tamoxifen, but Clomiphene or Dostinex can also be used.
Gynecomastia Surgery
Surgery for gynecomastia, called a reduction mammoplasty, aims to reduce breast size in men.
The surgery takes about 1h30, is performed with sedation and local or general anesthesia, depending on the plastic surgeon who will do the surgery and is usually made a half-moon shaped cut around the nipple.
In cases where the patient shows excess fat in the breasts, instead of the surgery a liposuction can be performed to remove excess volume and correct the flaccidity that may exist.
In the most severe cases of gynecomastia, in which excess breast tissue can cause the breasts to become flaccid and the areola enlarged, surgery is also performed to reposition the areola and remove excess skin.

Recovery from surgery for gynecomastia is usually rapid because the patient is discharged on the day.
Although problems with surgery are rare, irregularities may occur on the surface of the breast and changes in the shape or position of the nipple.
Post-operative surgery for gynecomastia
In the postoperative period of surgery for gynecomastia, the patient may present swelling and alteration in the sensitivity of the breasts. Usually the swelling lasts about 7 to 10 days and the lack of sensitivity on the spot, although transient may last up to 1 year.
After surgery, the patient should use a chest compression band every day for about 30 to 45 days, as shown in the image, to help improve skin adhesion, support the operated area, and decrease postoperative risks such as bleeding, for example.
It is very important for the patient to avoid physical exertion in the first two weeks, as well as sun exposure in the first few months. Physical exercises are usually resumed 3 months after surgery and always under the indication of the plastic surgeon.
