Nasal Phenylephrine is a medication used for the treatment of stuffy nose. There is also ophthalmic version phenylephrine, which is used for dilation of the pupil in surgery for example.
This medicine of nasal application has as main action to provoke a vasoconstriction of the small veins of the interior of the nose diminishing therefore the volume of produced secretion and thus the sensation of the nose dripping, that occurs in the flu and colds.
Indications of Phenylephrine
Stuffy nose; flu and colds.
Side Effects of Phenylephrine
Palpitations; increased heartbeat.
Contraindications of Phenylephrine
Pregnancy risk C; women in the lactation phase; children under 2 years; individuals with heart problems; individuals with high blood pressure; patients taking MAO (monoamine oxidase inhibitor); hypersensitive to any component of the formula.
Mode of use of Phenylephrine
Nasal use
- The medicine vial should be inserted into the nostril, and when inhaling should lightly press the nebulizer bottle, a jet of medicine is sufficient. This procedure should be repeated twice daily.
