Ilaris is an anti-inflammatory drug indicated for the treatment of inflammatory autoimmune diseases, such as inflammatory multisystemic disease or juvenile idiopathic arthritis, for example.
Its active principle is canaquinumab, a substance that inhibits the action of an important protein in inflammatory processes, and is therefore able to control and alleviate the symptoms of inflammatory diseases where there is excessive production of this protein.
Ilaris is a drug produced by Novartis Laboratories that can only be administered in the hospital and is therefore not for sale in pharmacies.

The treatment with Ilaris has a price of approximately 60 thousand reais for each bottle of 150 mg, however, in most cases, it can be obtained free of charge through SUS.
For what is indicated
Ilaris is indicated for the treatment of periodic syndromes associated with cryopyrin in adults and children, such as:
- Familial autoinflammatory syndrome triggered by cold, also called familial cold urticaria;
- Muckle-Wells syndrome;
- Neonatal onset multisystemic inflammatory disease, also known as Chronic-Infant-Neurological-Cutaneous-Joint Syndrome.
In addition, this drug may also be used in the treatment of systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis in 2-year-old children who have not had good results with treatment with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and systemic corticosteroids.
How to use
Ilaris is injected into the fatty layer under the skin and can only be given by a doctor or nurse in the hospital. The dose should be appropriate to the problem and the person's weight, the general guidelines being:
- 50 mg for patients weighing more than 40 kg.
- 2 mg / kg for patients weighing between 15 kg and 40 kg.
Injection should be done every 8 weeks, especially in the treatment of periodic syndromes associated with cryopyrin, during the time recommended by the physician.
