The perpetual purple plant, scientifically named Gomphrena globosa, can be used in tea form to combat sore throat and hoarseness. This plant is also popularly known as Amaranth flower.
This plant measures on average 60 cm in height and the flowers can be purple, white or red, and do not wither, being therefore often used as decorative flower, being useful to make garland of flowers and in graves of cemeteries, being known by many as the flower of homesickness.
What is it for
Because of its medicinal properties, the purple perpetual can be used to help treat conditions such as sore throat, stomach pain, cough, laryngitis, heat waves, hypertension, cough, diabetes, hemorrhoids and to relieve colds. In decoction can be used as a diuretic, to decrease stomach acidity, to fight against diseases of the respiratory tract, and to aid in digestion.
Medicinal properties
The perpetual purple has antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action.
How to use
The purple perpetual can be used in the form of tea or infusion that must be prepared with the leaves or with the flowers of that plant.
- For tea with the flowers: Put 4 dried flowers in a cup or put 10 grams in 1 liter of boiling water. Let it crumble while it is capped and when it reaches the ideal temperature, strain, sweeten with honey and take next.
To combat respiratory diseases the tea should be consumed still warm up to 3 times a day.
Contraindications
This medicinal plant is not indicated during pregnancy, lactation and should not be used in children under 12 years of age because there is no evidence of its safety in these cases.
