The lump in the vagina may be a Gartner cyst, an uncommon condition that arises due to malformations in the fetus during gestation.
Normally during pregnancy, the fetus has a Gartner channel, responsible for the formation of the urinary and reproductive system, which should disappear after birth. However, in some cases, it remains and eventually becomes full of fluid, causing a vaginal cyst, which may cause no symptoms until adulthood.

Gartner cyst treatment
Treatment for Gartner cyst can be done in the maternity ward, when it is already possible to identify the cyst in the baby, through aspiration of the fluid, or a minor surgery for complete removal of the cyst.
In adulthood, treatment for Gartner cyst is only recommended when the woman has symptoms or complications such as urinary incontinence or urinary tract infections.
How to Identify the Gartner Cyst
Symptoms of Gartner cyst occur primarily in adulthood and include:
- Pain during intimate contact;
- Discomfort in the intimate region;
- Caroço in the genital region;
- Abdominal pain.
Usually the Gartner cyst does not show symptoms in the child, but in some cases the parents can observe the presence of a lump in the girl's intimate area and should inform the pediatrician to diagnose the problem and initiate the appropriate treatment.
