The side effects of the use of growth hormone (GH), generally, are not observed in children. However, when given in adults, the following side effects may occur:
- Tingling;
- Pain in the muscles;
- Joint pain;
- Fluid retention;
- Carpal tunnel syndrome;
- Increased insulin resistance in case of type 2 diabetes.
Very rarely there may be: headache, increased intracranial pressure, hypertension and ringing in the ears.
The main side effect of growth hormone in children is the onset of pain in the leg bones, which is known as growth pain.
The side effects listed above may not be observed at the same time, and if the patient is properly guided by the physician, according to the dosage and the time of use of the medication, there may be no side effects.
Growth hormone treatment
Growth hormone (GH) treatment is indicated for boys and girls to stimulate growth. It may also be used in adults to increase muscle mass and decrease localized fat (always with a medical indication).
The treatment is usually done with a daily injection, when lying on the thighs, arms, buttocks or abdomen, and the duration of the treatment varies according to the need and the medical indication.
