Cryogenics of humans, known scientifically as cryonics, is a technique that allows the body to cool down to -196 ° C, causing the deterioration and aging process to stop. Thus, it is possible to keep the body under the same conditions for several years so that in the future it will be revived.
In this way, cryogenics have been used especially in end-stage patients with serious diseases, such as cancer, in the hope that they will be revived when the cure of their disease is discovered, for example. However, this technique can be done by anyone after death.
The cryogenics of humans still can not be made in Brazil, however there are already two companies in the United States that are practicing the process for people from all countries.
How is done
Although popularly referred to as a freezing process, cryogenics are actually a vitrification process in which body fluids are kept in a solid, liquid state, similar to glass.
To do this, you need to follow a step-by-step guide that includes:
- Supplementation with antioxidants and vitamins during the terminal phase of the disease, to reduce lesions in vital organs;
- After declaring the clinical death, ie after the heart stops beating, the cryogenic team makes the body cool with ice and other cold substances. This process should be done as soon as possible to keep healthy tissues, especially the brain;
- After cooling, the team injects anticoagulants into the body to prevent blood from freezing;
- The body is transported to the cryogenic laboratory where it will be stored. During the transport the team does chest compression or uses a special machine to replace the heart beat and keep the blood circulating, allowing to carry the oxygen to the whole body;
- In the laboratory, the blood is completely removed and replaced with an antifreeze substance specially prepared for the process. This substance prevents the tissues freeze and suffer injuries, as would happen if it were blood;
- The body is placed in a sealed container and the temperature slowly lowered to -196 ° C;
- Finally, the refrigerated body is stored inside another container with liquid nitrogen, where it will be kept for the years that are needed.
In order to obtain the best results, a member of the laboratory team must be present during the final phase of life to begin the process soon after death.
For people who do not have a serious illness but want to undergo cryogenics, they should use a wristband with information to call someone from the lab team as quickly as possible, ideally in the first 15 minutes.
What prevents the process
The biggest obstacle to cryogenics is the process of resuscitation of the body, since it is not yet possible to revive the person, and it has only been possible to revive organs of animals. However, it is expected that with the advancement of science and medicine it will be possible to revive the whole body.
Cryogenic price
Currently cryogenics in humans are only made in the United States, because it is where the only two companies in the world with the capacity to preserve bodies are found.
The total value of the cryogen varies according to the person's age and health status, however, the average value is 200 thousand dollars.
There is even a cheaper cryogenic process in which only the head is preserved to keep the brain healthy and ready to be placed in another body, such as a clone in the future. This process is cheaper, being close to 80 thousand dollars.
