Saw palmetto is a medicinal plant that can be used as a home remedy for impotence, urine problems and enlarged prostate. The medicinal properties of the plant come from its small black-blue fruits similar to blackberries.
Also known as sabal, it is a small palm tree with prickly and serrated stems, which is up to 4 meters high, and is common in Florida in the United States. The scientific name of saw palmetto is Serenoa repens and the extract of its fruits can be purchased in the form of tea powder, capsules or lotion.

Saw palmetto is used to treat symptoms of prostate hyperplasia, benign prostatic tumor, prostatitis, urinary problems, cystitis, hair loss, premature ejaculation, sexual impotence, eczema, cough and asthma.

This plant has anti-inflammatory, antiestrogenic, diuretic, anti-seborrheic and aphrodisiac properties. It also acts as a growth inhibitor of prostate cells in the case of benign prostate tumors.
How to use
The mode of use of saw palmetto can be:
- Capsules : Take 1 or 2 capsules for breakfast and dinner.
- Powder : Put 1 teaspoon of the saw palmetto powder into a glass of water, dissolve and take 2 times a day.
- Lotion : apply, after washing and drying the hair, on the areas affected by baldness. A quick massage should be done for 2 or 3 minutes, gently pressing and making circular movements with the fingers on the scalp.

Side effects
