Cirrhosis has no cure because it is a progressive disease where the liver is destroyed bit by bit, but replacing the diseased liver with another through a liver transplant may represent the cure of the disease.
Liver cirrhosis is characterized by slow destruction of liver tissue and constant scar formation. In most cases it is a consequence of alcohol or viral hepatitis. Cirrhosis is progressive and has no cure, the scarring process in the liver may be discontinued, but existing scar tissue will always remain.
Treatment
The treatment for cirrhosis is to suppress alcohol or drug use, if appropriate, in appropriate nutrition with vitamin supplementation and in the treatment of complications as they occur. Liver transplantation may be an alternative treatment and sometimes it is the only way to cure the disease.
