Pneumothorax is the presence of air outside the lungs, which causes difficulty in breathing, displacing the heart, altering its heartbeat and can lead to death. Pneumothorax occurs in the pelvic space that is the space between two tissues that surround the lungs and may be caused by an open wound in the chest such as a stab or shot, or by aggravation of some disease such as pneumonia, for example.
How to identify Pneumothorax
The diagnosis of pneumothorax is made through an x-ray examination and computed tomography, pulmonary auscultation and clinical observation of the patient.
How to Treat Pneumothorax
The treatment for pneumothorax is to aspirate the air out of the lungs with a special needle and to place a thoracic drain in the most severe cases. A last hypothesis is the performance of a corrective surgery.
