Bimatoprost is the active principle of an eye drops indicated for glaucoma that should be used daily to decrease high pressure within the eye. It is sold commercially in its generic form but this same active principle is also present in a solution sold under the name Latisse and Lumigan.
Glaucoma is an eye disease where pressure is high and can impair vision and even cause blindness when left untreated. Its treatment should be indicated by the ophthalmologist and is usually done with a combination of medications and ocular surgery, and surgery is only performed in the most severe cases and when only the eye drops is not enough to control intraocular pressure.
Indications
Bimatoprost eye drops are indicated to decrease the increased pressure in the eyes of people with open or closed angle glaucoma, and also in case of iridotomy or ocular hypertension.

How to use
Simply apply 1 drop of the bimatoprost eye drops to each eye every 12 hours, totaling 2 drops per day. If you must use other drops, wait 5 minutes to place the other medicine.
If using contact lens should remove them before dripping the eye drops and should only reattach the lens after 15 minutes because the eye drops can be absorbed by the contact lens and be damaged.
When dripping drops into eyes, be careful not to touch the packaging in the eyes to avoid contamination.
Side effects
Generic Bimatoprosta eye drops have the most common side effects such as a slight blurring of vision shortly after applying the product and this can impair the use of machines and the driving of vehicles. Other effects include eye redness, eyelash growth and itchy eyes. Sensation of dry eyes, burning, eye pain, blurred vision, inflammation of the cornea and eyelids.
Contraindications
This eye drops should not be used in case of allergy to bimatoprost or any of the components of its formula. It is also not recommended for use by children or adolescents because it is not known whether this drug is safe at these ages.
