Cefuroxime is a medicinal product for oral or injectable use, known commercially as Zinacef.
This medicine is an antibacterial, which acts to prevent the formation of bacterial wall, being effective in the treatment of pharyngitis, bronchitis and sinusitis.
Indications for Cefuroxime
Tonsillitis; bronchitis; pharyngitis; gonorrhea; joint infection; skin and soft tissue infection; bone infection; infection after surgery; urinary infection; meningitis; earaches; pneumonia.

Allergic reactions at the injection site; gastrointestinal disorders.
Contraindications of Cefuroxime
Pregnancy risk B; women in the lactation phase; individuals allergic to penicillins.
How to use Cefuroxime
Oral use
Adults and Teens
- Bronchitis : Give 250 to 500 mg twice daily over a period of 5 to 10 days.
- Urinary tract infection : Administer 125 to 250 mg twice daily.
- Pneumonia : Administer 500 mg twice daily.
Children
- Pharyngitis and tonsillitis : Administer 125 mg twice daily over a period of 10 days.
Injectable use
Adults
- Severe infection : Administer 1.5 g every 8 hours.
- Urinary tract infection : Give 750 mg every 8 hours.
- Meningitis : Give 3 g every 8 hours.
Children over 3 years old
- Severe Infection : Administer 50 to 100 mg per kg of body weight per day.
- Meningitis : Administer 200 to 240 mg per kg of body weight daily.
