These two glitter recipes, or purpurina, are homemade natural and do not pollute the environment, can be used to apply on the skin, to use in makeup for a party or carnival, and is even edible to be prepared with natural ingredients.
In the two recipes we indicate here it is necessary to use an ingredient called mica powder, or powdered mica, which is a substance of mineral origin that gives a great brightness, without polluting the environment, unlike what happens with the industrialized purpurina that is made with plastic that ends up in the oceans being ingested by fish. Mica powder can be purchased at cosmetics and makeup stores.
Natural Glitter to make
This recipe is very simple to make and yields a lot, with excellent results and does not burn in the eyes, because it is not made with salt, but with gelatine, and can even be used to decorate cakes and desserts because it is edible.
Ingredients
- 1 package of unflavored gelatin (12g)
- 3 tablespoons water
- 1 teaspoon gel dye (edible) of the color of your choice
- 1 pinch of pearly mica powder
- 1 sheet of acetate
- 1 brush with soft bristles
Method of preparation
Place the unflavored gelatin in a small bowl of cold water and stir until the mixture begins to dissolve. Then microwave for 15 seconds and continue stirring until completely dissolved. If necessary, microwave for another 10 seconds. Then add the gel dye and the pearly mica powder and stir well.
After mixing is complete, brush the mixture with a brush on a sheet of smooth acetate and allow to dry for about 24 hours, then remove the hardened gelatin sheet and cut into pieces and beat into a mixer until it is the size you want.
The final appearance should look like a sparkling glaze, which shines brightly, perfectly replacing glitter and industrialized glitter, which is made from ingredients that pollute rivers and seas.
How to make natural (salt) glitter for skin
This is an excellent natural glitter recipe to use on the body, but that is not the best option for being on the hands or face because salt can cause tearing of the eyes.
Ingredients
- 1 kg of coarse salt
- A few drops of gel dye of the color you prefer
- 1 tablespoon pearled mica powder
- 1 baking sheet
- 1 sheet of buttered paper
Method of preparation
Put the coarse salt on a platter and mix well with a few drops of the natural coloring until all is well mixed. Then cover the baking sheet with the sheet of butter paper and place all the salt, forming a uniform layer, in the oven at 180º for 15 minutes. Then remove from the oven and beat with a mixer, to make it thinner, and finally, add the powdered mica and stir well.
To spread on the body, you should apply a layer of moisturizing cream, sunscreen or shea butter cream and then sprinkle the homemade glitter on top. If you want a more even result on the skin, you can mix the homemade glitter with the cream or sunscreen in a pot, mix well and then apply directly to the skin.
