Ceftriaxone is an antibiotic, similar to penicillin, which is used to eliminate excess bacteria that can cause infections such as:
- Meningitis;
- Abdominal infections;
- Infections of bones or joints;

- Gonorrhea, which is a sexually transmitted disease.

How to use
Ceftriaxone is given through an injection into the muscle or given through the vein, and the amount of medicine depends on the type and severity of the infection and the patient's weight. Like this:
- Adults and children over 12 years or weighing more than 50 kg : usually 1 to 2 g once a day in the muscle;
- Newborns up to 15 days: normally 20-50 mg per kg of body weight per day, injected into a vein;
- Children aged 15 days to 12 years weighing less than 50 kg : 20-80 mg per kg of body weight per day should be applied through the vein.
The application of Ceftriaxone should always be performed by a nurse or physician.
Possible side effects
Ceftriaxone may cause nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, inflammation of the mouth and tongue, itchy rash, and fluid retention.
