Esbriet is a medication indicated for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a disease in which the tissues of the lungs swell and become scarred over time, which makes breathing difficult, especially in the deep.
This medicine is in its composition Pirfenidone, a compound that helps reduce scars or scar tissue and swelling in the lungs, which improves breathing.
How to take
The recommended doses of Esbriet should be indicated by the physician as they should be given more and more, the following doses being generally indicated:
- First 7 days of treatment: should take 1 capsule, 3 times a day along with food;
- From day 8 to day 14 of treatment: should take 2 capsules, 3 times a day along with food;
- From the 15 day of treatment and remaining: should take 3 capsules, 3 times a day along with food.
The capsules should always be ingested with a glass of water during or after a meal to reduce the risk of side effects.
Side effects
Some of the side effects of Esbriet may include allergy reactions with symptoms such as swelling of the face, lips or tongue and difficulty breathing, allergic reactions to the skin, nausea, tiredness, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, shortness of breath, cough, weight, poor digestion, loss of appetite or headache.
Contraindications
Esbriet is contraindicated for patients on treatment with fluvoxamine, liver or kidney disease, and patients with allergy to pirfenidone or any of the components of the formula.
Also, if you are sensitive to sunlight, need to take antibiotics, or if you are pregnant or nursing, you should talk to your doctor before starting treatment.
