Washing the area that itches with cold water and then placing a pebble of ice are great home ways to stop the itching but it is also important to resist and not to scratch the skin because the more it scratches, the more it will have to itch.
Itchy skin is a symptom that can be related to a number of factors and, in order to solve it, it is also necessary to find out what causes it. If even after using these home remedies the itching persists a medical appointment is indicated.
Here are some home remedies indicated for the most common causes of itchy skin:
Itching due to insect bites
When a small area of the skin itches very much, it can be suspected that some insect stung, which can leave the skin a little swollen and reddish. Mosquitoes are the most stinging human skin itching, but the flea bite also causes intense itching in the pricked regions. In this case what you can do is:
- Wash the area with cold water and liquid soap and then wipe dry;
- Then apply a pebble of ice because this will anesthetize the site, relieving the itching immediately;
- Placing 1 or 2 drops of propolis at the exact site of the bite may be a good strategy to heal faster by fighting itching.
It is not recommended to wash with warm water because it tends to intensify itchy skin.
Itchy skin due to dry skin
Another common cause of itching near the elbows or legs is the dry leg, where it may be noted that it is whitish, and may even flake. In this case the best strategy is:
- Take a shower with cold, or warm water and
- Then apply a layer of moisturizing cream for dry skin. You can mix a few drops of sweet almond oil in the cream, to have a better effect.
This mix can be reapplied several times a day, as needed.
Skin itching after depilation
The next day of hair removal, the hairs usually start to break, breaking the skin barrier, causing intense itching on the depilated sites. In this case it is recommended:
- Take a shower with cold or warm water and
- Exfoliate the skin by rubbing a mixture of cornmeal with moisturizing lotion on areas that itch
This will aid in the growth of the hair, preventing it from getting stuck, causing itching and redness. But if the skin is still very sensitive to epilation, one can only put an arnica gel or aloe vera gel to relieve the discomfort.
Skin itching after contact with animals
Those who have allergies to animals with fur such as dogs or cats usually show respiratory signs such as runny nose, coughing and sneezing. But these people may also have itching and peeling on their skin after sleeping on a carpet or mattress full of mites. In that case, it may be helpful to bathe and then apply a poultice of mauve leaves to the sites that itch.
Ingredients
- Fresh mauve leaves
- 1 gauze or a piece of clean cloth
Method of preparation
Wash the mauve leaves very well and crush a handful of these leaves on a clean cloth and apply in the region to be treated and leave to act for 15 minutes. Then rinse the area with plenty of water.
Itching throughout the body
The itching that arises in the whole body can occur after a moment of stress or crisis of anxiety, in which case the only solution is to remain calm and control the emotions. Taking a tea of chamomile, valerian, passion fruit juice may help, but if the person already takes medicine prescribed for anxiety or depression, you can take a dose if you really need it.
