Brown discharge, although it may seem worrisome, is usually not a sign of a serious problem and is especially at the end of menstruation or when taking hormone medicines for thyroid problems, for example.
However, this type of discharge can also indicate more serious conditions that require treatment, such as a gonorrhea infection or even pelvic inflammatory disease, and it is always advisable to consult a gynecologist.
While waiting for the consultation, there are some natural treatments that can help alleviate the discomfort caused by discharge, but that should not replace medical treatment.
See what the main causes of brown discharge and when to worry.
1. Malaleuca essential oil
Malaleuca, also known as tea tree is a medicinal plant with strong anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that help fight various types of infections in the vaginal and genital region, relieving symptoms faster.
To use the essential oil, 5-10 drops should be poured into a small amount of a vegetable oil, such as sweet almond oil, evening primrose or coconut oil, and then place the mixture in an external absorbent and use during the day to relieve symptoms.
2. Juniper tea
Since brown discharge can also often be caused by a gonorrhea infection, juniper tea can also be an excellent natural option, as this is a plant traditionally used to treat such cases, due to its antimicrobial properties and antiseptics.
Ingredients
- 1 liter of water;
- 1 tablespoon chopped juniper berries.
Method of preparation
Put the water and the juniper berries in a pan and let it boil. After boiling, leave the heat on for another 7 to 10 minutes. At the end of this time let cool capped for 10 minutes. After that, the mixture should be cooked and drunk between meals.
Juniper tea may also have a soporific effect, so some people may feel sleepy after taking it.
3. Natural yogurt
Natural yogurt is one of the most commonly used home remedies for vaginal health and is usually recommended in fungal infections such as candidiasis. However, because it has natural probiotics, it helps to regulate the entire vaginal flora, helping not only treat excess fungi but also prevent the development of harmful bacteria.
To use the yogurt you should clean the vaginal area properly and then insert the yogurt inside with the help of a syringe. Lastly, a good tip is to also put an absorbent inside, to avoid soiling the panties during the day.
The yogurt should be applied twice a day, always washing the region before applying. The ideal is that the yoghurt is homemade and not supermarket, however, should be at least without added sugars, since sugar helps in the development of bacteria. Check out the recipe for homemade yogurt.
