The new Food Wheel teaches healthy eating, which is a varied, complete and balanced diet.
In a varied diet one should eat different foods within the same food group, for example several fruits and not always eat the same. A complete diet means eating all the food present on the food wheel, as all food is important to the body. A balanced diet corresponds to eating foods from each group in the appropriate amount.
The new Food Wheel is composed of seven food groups represented in a circle where they indicate the quantities of food that should be consumed day by day. The daily recommendations represented on the New Food Wheel are:
- Cereals and derivatives, tubers - 4 to 11 servings
- Vegetables - 3 to 5 servings
- Fruit - 3 to 5 servings
- Dairy - 2 to 3 servings
- Meat, fish and eggs - 1.5 to 4.5 servings
- Legumes - 1 to 2 servings
- Fats and oils - 1 to 3 servings
In the center of this wheel is the water because it is also part of a healthy diet the intake of 1.5 to 3 liters of water per day.
The new Portuguese food chain is the new food guide of the Portuguese and seeks to help the population to know in a simple way how to feed to prevent food-related diseases such as obesity, high blood pressure or diabetes, for example.
