Cyclobenzaprine Hydrochloride is a muscle relaxant that works by reducing the muscle spasms that cause the pain and the difficulties to move, without affecting the ability to move.
This medicine has the following trade names: cizax, miosan, mirtax, muscular and miofibrax, for example, but can only be bought with a prescription.
What is it for
Cyclobenzaprine Hydrochloride may be prescribed by your doctor to combat torticollis, and in case of fibromyalgia, low back pain, periarthritis, acute muscle pain, muscle spasms, and muscle stiffness. This medicine can also be used as a coadjuvant to relieve symptoms, when it is necessary to do physiotherapy or to rest.
How to take
Take 1 tablet of 20 to 40 mg of Cyclobenzaprine Hydrochloride daily, or every 6 or 12 hours, over a period of 2 or 3 weeks. The maximum daily dose is 60 mg.
Side effects
The most common side effects are drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth. However, other symptoms such as fatigue, headache, confusion, decreased mental acuity, irritability, nervousness, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, gastroesophageal reflux, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, unpleasant taste in the mouth, blurred vision, pharyngitis, upper airways and decreased strength.
Contraindications
Cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride should not be used by pregnant or lactating women, as well as in the presence of heart problems, acute myocardial infarction, cardiac arrhythmias, blockages or conduction disturbances, or congestive heart failure, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, urinary retention or hypersensitivity to any product of the formula. It should also not be used by people who take monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or have discontinued use for less than 14 days.
