To improve the health of the pregnant woman and consequently the baby's health the pregnant should have certain care such as:
- Do not drink alcoholic beverages, as alcohol can affect the physical and mental development of the baby;
- Do not smoke or avoid contact with smokers as cigarette substances can impair the development of the fetus, increase the risk of low birth weight, miscarriage and premature delivery;
- Avoid caffeine;
- Drink about 2 liters of water per day;
- Eat foods like fish, lean meat such as turkey or chicken, whole grains, vegetables, fruits, milk and dairy products and legumes;
- Do not drink stimulant drinks like coke, black tea or green tea;
- Avoid sun exposure between 10am and 4pm;
- Put sunscreen every day and flip it every 3/4 hours.
Physical exercise like walking, swimming, water aerobics, stretching or Pilates also help improve the health of the pregnant woman. However, it is very important that the exercises be accompanied by a physical educator or physical therapist so as not to endanger the health of the pregnant woman and the baby.
