Lanolin ointment for nipple splitting
Using a lanolin ointment, which you buy at pharmacies and drugstores, also has the same effect as breast milk. However, the amount of ointment that should be put should be equal to the size of a pea because by using more ointment, the nipples become moist and can cause an infection.
Nipple shields can dry out the skin, making it easier for cracks to appear and, therefore, should be avoided. What can be done to complement the treatment is to put a cotton disc between the nipple and the bra to avoid discomfort.
