How to take
The use of this medication should always be directed by a pediatrician, however, the general guidelines are:
Giardiasis
- Children aged 1 to 5 years: 5 ml syrup, 2 times a day, for 5 days;
- Children aged 5 to 10 years: 5 ml syrup 3 times a day for 5 days.
Amebiasis
- Intestinal amebiasis: 0.5 ml per kg, 4 times per day, for 5 to 7 days;
- Hepatic amebiasis: 0.5 ml per kg 4 times per day for 7 to 10 days
In case of forgetfulness you should take the forgotten dose as soon as possible. However, if you are very close to the next dose, you should only give one dose.
Possible side effects
The most common side effects of using Flagyl pediatric include stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, allergy to the skin, fever, headache, seizures and dizziness.
Who should not take
Flagyl pediatric is contraindicated for children with allergy to metronidazole or any other component of the formula.
