Diabetes diet cakes should ideally not contain refined sugar as it is easily absorbed, causing blood sugar spikes that aggravate the disease and make it difficult to treat.
In addition, this type of cakes should also contain a high amount of fiber, which help delay and regulate the absorption of carbohydrates, allowing to maintain balanced blood sugar levels.
Although they are more suitable for people with diabetes, these cakes should not be consumed often because even though they have low amounts of carbohydrates, they can alter sugar levels if consumed regularly. So, these recipes are only for party days.
Plum and oatmeal cake

Ingredients
- 2 eggs;
- 1 cup whole wheat flour;
- 1 cup finely chopped oats;
- 1 tablespoon light margarine;
- 1 cup skim milk;
- 1 shallow cup of powdered sweetener;
- 1 teaspoon baking powder;
- 2 fresh plums.
Method of preparation
Whisk the eggs, sweetener and margarine in the mixer, or blender, and then gradually mix the oats, flour and milk. After the dough is well mixed, add the baking powder and the plums in small pieces. Mix again and place in a greased form, leaving to cook in the oven at about 180º for approximately 25 minutes.
Once the cake is ready, you can sprinkle cinnamon powder, because it is also good for diabetes.
Orange and almond cake with filling
This cake does not contain refined sugar and has low amounts of carbohydrates, with only 8 grams per slice, and can be used at birthday parties for diabetics.
Ingredients
- 1 orange;
- 2 tablespoons of orange zest;
- 6 eggs;
- 250 g of almond flour;
- 1 tablespoon baking powder;
- ¼ tablespoon of salt
- 4 tablespoons of sweetener;
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract;
- 115 g cream cheese;
- 125 ml natural yogurt without sugar.
Method of preparation
Cut the orange into 4 pieces and remove the seeds. Then place in the blender and beat until smooth. Add the eggs, almond flour, baking powder, sweetener, vanilla and salt and beat again until well blended. Finally, divide the mixture into two well-buttered forms and bake at 180 ° C for approximately 25 minutes.
To make the filling, mix the cream cheese with the yogurt and then add the orange zest and another tablespoon of sweetener.
When the cake is cold, cut the top of each cake to make it more balanced and assemble the layers, placing the filling between each layer of cake.
Chocolate brownie diet
This version of the popular chocolate brownie in addition to delicious contains very little sugar, avoiding the spikes of blood sugar common of other cakes. Also, since you do not have milk or foods with gluten, it can also be consumed by people with celiac disease or lactose intolerance.
Ingredients
- 75 g unsweetened cocoa powder;
- 75 g of serracene wheat flour;
- 75 g of brown rice flour;
- 1 teaspoon baking powder;
- 1 teaspoon of xanthan gum
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 200 g chocolate in more than 70% cocoa, cut into small pieces;
- 225 g of agave syrup;
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract;
- 150 g of kneaded banana;
- 150 g unsweetened apple juice.
Method of preparation
Preheat the oven to 180º C and line a square with a thin layer of butter. Then sift the cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, xanthan gum and salt into a bowl and stir to mix.
Heat the chocolate that is cut into pieces in water bath along with the agave and then add the vanilla extract. Put this mixture on the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly until smooth.
Finally, mix the banana and the apple juice and put the mixture in the form. Bake for about 20 to 30 minutes or until you can prick a fork without leaving it dirty.
