How to take
Adults
- Initiate treatment with 250 mg Methyldopa 3 times daily for 2 days. If the treatment does not achieve a satisfactory result increase the dose under medical guidance.
Adult dose limit : 3 g per day.
It is important to take the medicine every day at the same time.
Side Effects of Methyldopa
Methyldopa may cause drowsiness, tingling, pain or weakness in the hands or feet, breast enlargement, mild heartbeat, dry mouth, depression or anxiety, diarrhea, decreased sexual ability, headache, fever, swelling of the extremities of the feet or legs, stuffy nose, nausea, falling pressure on getting up, vomiting, liver problems.
Methyldopa may also interfere with the interpretation of some blood and urine tests.
Contraindications of Methyldopa
This medicine should not be used in case of children, in case of Pregnancy Risk B; during breast-feeding, if you are allergic to any component of the formula, in case of liver diseases, such as acute hepatitis or active cirrhosis, if you are taking monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor medicines.
