Merthiolate is an antiseptic drug with the active substance chlorhexidine digluconate.
This topical and oral oral medication is used to cleanse wounds and other superficial skin or mouth lesions, and its main action is to fight bacteria, preventing infections from occurring.
Merthiolate Indications
Use Topic : skin asepsis; court; wounds; scratches; superficial infections of the skin; navel of the newborn; athlete's foot; ingrown nails.
Oral local use : gingivitis; mouth infection; canker sores; bacterial plaque prevention; stomatitis.
Side Effects of Merthiolate
Changes in palate; change in the color of the oral surface; change in tooth color.
Contraindications of Merthiolate
Pregnancy risk C; Individuals hypersensitive to any component of the formula.
How to use Merthiolate
Topic Use
- Apply sufficient amount of the medicine to the affected area, 3 to 4 times a day.If necessary, protect the area with gauze or other dressings.
Oral local use
- Gingivitis : rinse mouth with 15 ml of 0.12% Merthiolate solution for 30 seconds. The procedure should be done 2 times a day, after flossing and brushing.
- Stomatitis (in denture users): Place the denture in a 0.12% Merthiolate solution for 1 to 2 minutes, and rinse the mouth with the solution for 30 seconds. The procedure should be done 2 times a day.
