Tofacitinibe Citrate, also known as Xeljanz, is a medicine to treat rheumatoid arthritis, which allows relief of pain and inflammation in the joints.
This compound acts within cells by inhibiting the activity of certain enzyme enzymes, the JAK kinases, which prevents the production of specific cytokines. This inhibition reduces the inflammatory response of the immune system, thus reducing inflammation of the joints.
Indications
Tofacitinibe Citrate is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe active rheumatoid arthritis in adult patients who have not responded to other treatments.
How to take
You should take 1 tablet of Tofacitinibe Citrate 2 times a day, and this medicine may be taken alone or in combination with other medicines for rheumatoid arthritis, such as methotrexate, for example.
Tofacitinibe Citrate tablets should be swallowed whole, without breaking or chewing, and with a glass of water.
Side effects
Some of the side effects of Tofacitinibe Citrate may include infection of the nose and pharynx, pneumonia, herpes zoster, bronchitis, influenza, sinusitis, urinary tract infection, pharyngeal infection, changes in blood test results, weight gain, abdominal pain, vomiting, gastritis, diarrhea, nausea, poor digestion, increased blood fat and change in cholesterol, pain in muscles, tendons or ligaments, joint pain, anemia, fever, excessive tiredness, swelling in the extremities of the body, headache, difficulty sleeping, high blood pressure, shortness of breath, cough or hives on the skin.
Contraindications
Tofacitinibe Citrate is contraindicated for children and adolescents under 18 years of age, patients with severe liver disease, and patients with Tofacitinibe Citrate or other components of the formula.
In addition, it should not be used by pregnant or breastfeeding women without an appointment by a physician.
