How to use
Repoflor capsules should be swallowed whole, without chewing, with a little liquid. However, in cases where treatment has to be done with young children or people who are unable to swallow, capsules can be opened and the contents added to liquids, bottles or food, which should not be hot or freezing. Once opened, the capsules should be consumed immediately.
This medicine should be taken preferably in a fast or half an hour before meals and in people who are taking antibiotics or chemotherapy, Repoflor should be ingested just before these agents.
The dosage depends on the dose of the capsules and the problem to be treated, thus:
- Repoflor capsules 100 mg: In acute changes of the intestinal flora and in diarrhea by Clostridium difficile, the recommended dose is 2 capsules, twice a day and in the chronic changes of the intestinal flora, the recommended dose is 1 capsule twice a day .
- Repoflor capsules 200 mg: In acute changes in intestinal flora and in diarrhea due to Clostridium difficile, the recommended dose is 1 capsule twice a day and in chronic changes of the intestinal flora, the recommended dose is 1 capsule once daily .
In most cases, two to three days of treatment is sufficient. The dosage of Repoflor can be changed by the doctor and if symptoms persist after five days, the diagnosis should be reviewed and therapy modified.
Possible side effects
This medication is generally well tolerated, however, it can change the smell of stool, especially in children. Other effects that may arise, though rare, may be rash, itching, and hives, intestines, intestinal gas, and fungus in immunocompromised individuals.
When not to use
Repoflor capsules are not indicated in case of yeast allergy, especially Saccharomyces boulardii or any component of the formula. It is also not indicated for people who have central venous access because it increases the risk of fungemia.
