Gentian is a medicinal plant, also known as Gencianela, Gentian-yellow, Gengiba, Junciana or Unciana, much used in the treatment of digestive problems.
Its scientific name is Gentiana lutea and can be bought in natural products stores and in some handling pharmacies.

Gentian is used to help treat allergies, amenorrhea, anemia, diarrhea, rheumatic pain, fever, heartburn, gallstones, diabetes, anorexia, arthritis, general weakness, gastritis, gout, jaundice, nausea, cold, intestinal worms and vomiting.

How to use gentian
The used parts of gentian are its leaves and roots to make tea, which must be taken before meals.
- Gentian tea: Add 1 teaspoon of the gentian root in a cup with boiling water and let stand for 5 minutes. Strain and drink 2 to 3 times a day.

The side effects of gentian include headache and vomiting when consumed in excess.
Contraindications of gentian
Gentian is contraindicated in pregnancy and for hypertensive patients, predisposed to headaches or with ulcers in the stomach.
