Hoarseness is usually caused by an inflammation in the throat that ends up affecting the vocal cords and causing the voice to change. Some of the most common causes are colds and flu, as well as reflux or excessive stress.
However, there are some homemade ways to relieve hoarseness and speed recovery, such as lemon tea or the pomegranate peel gargles. In addition, it is also recommended to protect the throat by wearing appropriate clothing such as a turtleneck sweater, scarves or scarves, especially if hoarseness occurs in the winter.
If symptoms persist for more than 3 days, it is recommended to have a consultation with the general practitioner, especially if you are not having the flu, a cold, or if you have not used your voice too loudly or shouting for example.
1. Lemon tea with honey
Lemon is rich in vitamin C that helps strengthen the body's natural defenses, while honey has antioxidant properties that decongest and detoxify the body, aiding in the treatment of hoarseness caused by colds and flu.
Ingredients
- 1 lemon with peel;
- 1 glass of water;
- 3 teaspoons of honey.
Method of preparation
Put the water to a boil and when it threatens to boil, extinguish the fire and add the lemon with peel cut into slices. Cover, allow to bake, strain and then add the honey. Take this tea 2 to 3 times a day.
2. Gargarejo of pomegranate and watercress
Watercress, pomegranate and honey have properties that aid in the process of cleaning the vocal cords being very useful in the fight against hoarseness.
Ingredients
- 2 glasses of water;
- 4 sprigs of watercress;
- 1/2 pomegranate in shell;
- 3 tablespoons honey.
Method of preparation
Put the watercress, pomegranate and water in a pan and simmer for about 20 minutes over low heat. Next, strain the solution and add the honey. Gargle with this solution 2 times a day.
3. Honey syrup with propolis
Honey and propolis have healing and purifying properties that can help clear the vocal chords, and is beneficial in case of hoarseness or aphonia.
Ingredients
- 250 ml warm water;
- 1 tablespoon honey;
- 50 drops of propolis extract.
Method of preparation
Mix all ingredients very well and gargle 3 to 4 times a day for the duration of the symptoms of hoarseness or loss of voice.
4. Turnip syrup with sugar
Turnip has diuretic, expectorant and purifying properties that will help in the fight against the diseases that can cause hoarseness like the flu and colds that can be the cause of the hoarseness.
Ingredients
- 1 turnip
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar;
- about 1 glass of water.
Method of preparation
Cut the turnip into thin slices, arrange them in a shallow dish and cover the slices with the brown sugar. Add enough water just to cover the thin slices moistening the sugar. Soak for 5 hours and take the broth to the spoons during the day.
