In hyperaldosteronism are produced exaggerated amounts of aldosterone, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. This excessive production results in an insufficient amount of potassium leading to an increase in blood pressure.
Most of the time this disease is of primary cause and occurs more frequently in women between 30 and 50 years of age.
There are two types of hyperaldosteronism:
Primary hyperaldosteronism : caused by tumor in the adrenal gland,
Secondary hyperaldosteronism : caused by increased renin production.
Renin is an enzyme that regulates the entry and exit of blood in the kidneys.
The treatment for hyperaldosteronism is based on controlling the pressure, eliminating fluids through diuretic medication and in cases of tumor, remove it.
