Radula is actually a plant genus that contains about 300 different species, such as Radula marginata or Radula laxiramea, and appears to have effects similar to those of Cannabis, another plant, popularly known as marijuana, and which has a sedative and hallucinogen.
While in Cannabis, the substance that has an effect on the brain is Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, in Radula the substance is called Perrotinolene, or PET, and seems to affect the same brain receptors as THC, causing not only hallucinations and sensation well-being that leads to the consumption of marijuana, but also have some health benefits.
Radula is a traditional plant from New Zealand, Costa Rica and Japan, which has a very simple structure and small leaves that resemble scales, being compared often with moss.
In these countries, species of the genus Radula have been used traditionally by indigenous peoples for many years to address some health problems, but it is only now being investigated by scientists to identify all its effects and to understand whether it is safe for health.
Main functions of Radula in the body
By acting directly on the brain and having a strong analgesic effect, Radula PET may be used in medicine to help treat some problems such as:
- Inflammation in various body locations;
- Chronic pain that does not improve with another treatment;
- Psychological problems such as depression or anxiety.
However, just as in the case of marijuana, several studies are still needed to confirm these properties and assess their safety.
Possible side effects
Because of the similarity with marijuana components, Radula PET may cause various side effects in the body, especially when used indiscriminately. Some of these effects may include difficulty in moving, apathy, decreased motor coordination, changes in heart rate, decreased libido and even hormonal changes.
However, it is also possible that these negative effects are lower than marijuana, since the concentration of PET in Radula is lower than THC in marijuana, being approximately 0.7 to 7% against 10% of THC in marijuana.
In addition, PET seems to affect neurons less negatively than THC, seeming to produce no long-term memory problems, as long as used correctly.
