Sayana Press is an injectable contraceptive that prevents a woman from ovulating for 3 months and is therefore taken only once every 13 weeks.
This medicine is similar in form to a syringe with medroxyprogesterone acetate that can be given by a health professional or by the woman herself after the first dose.
Syana Press Indications
Sayana Press is indicated for long-term female contraception, endometriosis and treatment of menopausal symptoms.
Sayana Press's Way of Using
The Sayana Press should be taken every 13 weeks through a subcutaneous injection into the outer thigh, abdomen, or upper arm.
The first injection should be made by a health professional until the fifth day of the menstrual cycle. However, the following doses can be taken by the woman, following the following steps:
- Shake well before administration for a uniform suspension;
- Apply slowly for 5 to 7 seconds.
Side Effects of Sayana Press
Side effects of Sayana Press include delay in return to fertility for up to 1 year, loss of bone density, amenorrhea, and weight gain. In addition, the injection site may become hardened, reddened and cause pain or itching.
Contraindications of Sayana Press
Sayana Press is contraindicated in pregnant women and adolescents, as well as in patients with hypersensitivity to medroxyprogesterone acetate, breast cancer or genital organs, thromboembolic disease, hepatic failure, metabolic disease or history of cerebrovascular diseases, such as stroke.
