This medicine can be purchased in pharmacies for a price of about 17 to 30 reais, if generic, and 35 to 60 reais, if it is a brand name drug, known as Stilnox, and can only be obtained by prescription .
How to use
As this remedy acts very fast, it should be swallowed immediately before bedtime or in bed. Usually the recommended dose is 1 tablet per day, 2 to 5 days for occasional insomnia and 1 tablet per day for 2 to 3 weeks in case of transient insomnia.
For people over 65 years of age, who have liver failure or who are impaired, as they are generally more sensitive to the effects of zolpidem, it is recommended to take only half a tablet, which is equivalent to 5 mg per day.
Who should not use
Zolpidem should not be used in people who are hypersensitive to the active substance or to any component of the formula. In addition, it is also contraindicated for people with severe or acute respiratory insufficiency or with liver failure.
It should also not be used in children under 18 years of age and pregnant or breast feeding women.
Possible side effects
The most common side effects that can occur with the use of zolpidem are hallucinations, agitation, nightmares, drowsiness, headache, dizziness, exacerbated insomnia, anterograde amnesia, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, back pain, lower respiratory rate and fatigue.
