Acipimox is a medication that lowers cholesterol and triglycerides. It works by preventing fat from reaching the liver and being transformed into cholesterol.
This medicine for oral administration should be taken after meals.
Indications
Hypercholesterolemia; hypertriglyceridemia.
Side effects
Cutaneous vasodilation; itch; feeling of heat, redness; headache; ache; burning in the pit of the stomach; weakness.
Contraindications
Pregnancy and breastfeeding; hypersensitivity to nicotinic acid derivatives; peptic ulcer.
How to use
Adults: hypertriglyceridemia 250 mg twice a day; hypercholesterolemia or associated with hypertriglyceridemia 250 mg 3x a day; renal failure patients should adapt the dosage according to creatinine clearance between 40 and 80 ml / min - 250 mg daily; between 20 and 40 ml / min - 250 mg every 2 days.
