Indomethacin is the active substance of an antirheumatic drug known commercially as Indocid.
This oral and rectal medicine is indicated for the treatment of arthritis and arthrosis, since its anti-inflammatory and analgesic action decreases pain and promotes the recovery of inflamed tissues.
Indomethacin Indications
Arthritis (moderate and severe); acute gouty arthritis; ankylosing spondylitis; osteoarthritis; arthrosis.

Contraindications of Indomethacin
Pregnancy risk B; women in the lactation phase; children under 14 years of age; preparation for heart surgery; history of proctitis; recent rectal inflammation; Hipersensibility to any of the formula's components.
How to use Indomethacin
Oral use
- Arthritis; spondylitis; Osteoarthritis : Begin treatment with 25 mg of Indomethacin 2 or 3 times per day. If necessary increase the daily dose by 25 or 50 mg at intervals of 1 week until reaching the ideal dose. The dose limit is 150-200 mg per day.
- Acute gouty arthritis: Administer 50 mg Indomethacin 3 times daily.
Rectal use
Adults
- Administer 100 mg Indomethacin twice daily.
