Normal labor can cause urinary incontinence, but that does not mean that all women who have normal birth will have this problem.
Causes of postnatal urinary incontinence include:
- Induced labor;
- Baby weight greater than 4 kg;
- Prolonged childbirth.
In these situations there is a greater risk of women having urinary incontinence because the pelvic muscles become more flaccid, allowing the urine to escape.
In births where evolution occurs naturally and the woman is quiet from start to finish, the pelvic bones open slightly and the pelvic muscles completely distend and then gradually return to their normal tone, not bringing changes and therefore the chances of suffering from urinary incontinence are greatly reduced.
In case of urinary incontinence, treatment can be done through the practice of Kegel exercises, which are exercises of contraction and strengthening of the pelvic muscles, through physical therapy or through surgery for the repair of the perineum.
