Flucitosin is an antifungal medicine used to treat severe candidiasis. This medicine acts on fungi by altering the mechanism of action of the microorganism, weakening it and making it easier to eliminate it in the body.
Flucitosin is an oral medication.
Indications of Flucitosin
Flucitosycin is indicated for the treatment of systemic candidiasis, systemic mycosis, Cryptococcus neoformans pneumopathy, cutaneous leishmaniasis and chromomycosis.
How to use Flucitosycin
The mode of use of flucytosine consists of ingestion of 100 to 200 mg / kg per day, divided into 4 doses, every 6 hours, for 30 to 90 days.
When renal insufficiency is present the dose should be reduced or the interval between doses should be increased.
Side effects of flucytosine
The side effects of flucytosine may be anemia, diarrhea, lack of appetite, abdominal distension, abdominal pain, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, confusion, hallucination, headache, sedation and hearing loss.
Contraindications of flucytosine
Flucytosine is contraindicated in pregnant or lactating women, children and hypersensitive individuals to any component of the formula.
