To remove the speck in the eye should be washed with plenty of running water or saline, avoiding rubbing the eye.
A small speckle in the eye is always a very uncomfortable problem because there are many nerve endings in the eye and therefore a small speck appears to be a large foreign body inside the eyeball. The liquid tends to take the speck to a region with less sensitivity to be removed with a finger.
Another reason why it is important not to scratch the eye when a speck comes in is because it can scratch the cornea, the anteriormost and exposed part of the eye, and in addition to causing more discomfort and pain, it can also cause a corneal infection by a scratch that exposes the same to several microorganisms.
