The fracture of the penis occurs when the erect penis is heavily pressed in the wrong way, forcing the organ to fold in half. This usually happens when the woman is over the man and the penis escapes from the vagina, causing it to feel abruptly on the partner's organ, causing the rupture of the cavernous bodies of the penis, where the fracture happens.
Another rarer cause is to bend the erect penis with the hand in an attempt to stop the erection, such as when a child enters the room, for example. In general, treatment is done with surgery and full recovery takes about 4 to 6 weeks.
Signs of fractured penis
The fracture in the penis is easy to be identified because it is possible to hear the sound of a crack at the moment in which the organ tissue ruptures.
Then, soon there is severe pain, loss of erection, bruising of bluish or black color and great swelling, also increasing the size of the scrotal sac. If the injury also affects the urethra, it is possible to notice blood while urinating.
What to do
As soon as you feel the signs of a penile fracture, you should go to the emergency room for help. Confirmation of the fracture is done through clinical examination, x-ray of the penis, cavernosography, urethrocistography.
In some cases, it may also be necessary to have a cystoscopy, a procedure in which a small tube with a camera is placed in the urethra, the channel through which the urine leaves, to see if it has also been injured.
How to treat
After knowing the size and where the injury occurred, it is usually necessary to have surgery to repair the ruptured tissues, which should be done within 3 days after the fracture, because the earlier the repair, the better the recovery. In general, hospitalization time is 3 to 6 days.
The treatment with only anti-inflammatory and antibiotic remedies is only done when the fracture is very small, with few bruising and swelling. In addition, during recovery, it is necessary to put ice in the area, take medications that inhibit involuntary nocturnal erection, and have no intimate contact for about 4 to 6 weeks.
Complications
The complications of the fracture can be presence of curvature in the erect penis and erectile dysfunction, because the healing tissue prevents the penis from getting erect normally.
However, these complications usually only happen when the treatment in the hospital is not done or when the man delays to seek medical help.
