Remedies for memory help increase concentration, reasoning, and combat physical and mental depletion, thus improving the ability to store and use information in the brain.
A good natural remedy for memory is Ginkgo Biloba, which is a supplement that increases blood circulation and can be purchased at pharmacies and drugstores, and does not need a prescription. However, there are other safe options for counteracting poor memory such as consumption of caffeine, zinc, omega 3 and magnesium because these substances increase alertness and concentration.
Supplements to increase memory in studies
Students undergoing tests or tenders tend to seek remedies in the pharmacy to improve memory, reasoning, and concentration. For these cases dietary supplements that may be a good option include:
- Memoriol B6;
- Memorium;
- Memorex;
- Ginkgo biloba;
- Intelimax IQ.
These sumplements have good amounts of amino acids, vitamins and minerals with regenerative and energetic function, being fundamental for brain functioning.
But a home-based way of combating forgetting is betting on foods like rosemary and sage that are medicinal plants that help fight against aging, memory loss, stress and depression caused by overwork.
In addition to these plants, foods rich in vitamins C, E and B complex, such as spinach, broccoli, strawberry or soybeans are also important to prevent memory loss. Watch the video with Tatiana Zanin Nutritionist and learn more about how nutrition can boost your brain capacity naturally:
Intelligence pill
Although not specifically formulated to specifically improve memory and ability to concentrate, some remedies indicated for the treatment of diseases such as Alzheimer's, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, depression and seizures, for example, are sometimes used to stimulate brain function. They are popularly known as the intelligence pill.
The following table lists the names of some remedies used to enhance memory and stimulate the brain but have never been tested in healthy people and may have serious side effects, putting their health at risk:
Name of remedy | What is it for | Side effects |
Aderall | treatment of attention deficit (ADD) | heart problems, addiction |
Aniracetam | Alzheimer's treatment | anxiety, insomnia |
Donepezila | Alzheimer's treatment | nausea or diarrhea |
Prozac | treatment of depression | anxiety, suicide |
Ritalin | treatment of attention deficit (ADD) | seizures, psychosis |
Modafinil | narcolepsy treatment | skin problems |
Piracetam | treatment for seizures | anxiety, tremors |
Selegiline | treatment of Parkinson's | headache, diarrhea |
The medicines in this table are not intended to improve memory and concentration because they have never been tested on healthy people and it is not known what the consequences of using them in this way would be. These medicines should only be used for the treatment for which they have been tested and approved, under medical indication.
Remedies for diseases that cause memory loss
Lack of memory may be related to diseases of the nervous system such as dementia, Alzheimer's or after suffering a stroke, for example. In these cases the remedies that help to improve memory may be Ritalin or Piracetam, which stimulate brain functioning and enhance the ability to memorize, but always under medical indication because each person has their individual need.
The first signs that poor memory and lack of concentration may indicate some disease are:
- Mental confusion like using a knife to eat or trying to open a door with the car key, for example;
- Disorientation like not knowing what day it is, where it was going or what it was doing on the street, for example;
- Decreased concentration and alertness;
- Difficulty saving some new information, such as a phone number or anniversary date.
When presenting these signs the person should go to the doctor so he can indicate what can be done to combat forgetfulness and strengthen the memory.
