Leboyer childbirth, also called nonviolent delivery or born smiling, is one in which attention is directed to baby comfort making your first experience out of the uterus more enjoyable.
How Leboyer is Made
The Leboyer delivery is done with some small care, such as:
- Little light, so that it does not stop the little eyes of the baby, who was only accustomed to the gloom;
- With as little noise as possible;
- Instead of patting the baby's back, a gentle massage is done to stimulate the lungs;
- Only after the umbilical cord stop pulsating is it cut off, facilitating the transition of breathing.
After these steps, the baby is wrapped up and given to the mother who should breastfeed it as soon as possible. The first bath can be given by the father and mother and baby stay in joint accommodation. The baby is placed in a small cradle next to the mother's bed, which encourages breastfeeding, reduces the baby's stress, and increases the affective bond with the parents.
The Leboyer delivery can be done in the water, in the normal delivery or cesarean section.
This style of delivery was first described by Frederick Leboyer, the same obstetrician who showed the West the shantala massage.
