Mammography is an x-ray examination that can be performed on different types of equipment and so it can be a conventional or digital mammogram.
Both types are efficient in the detection of mammary nodules or cysts and are therefore used for early detection of breast cancer. However, digital mammography is more modern and allows a better study of all breast structures, presenting a result closer to the real.
Main advantages of digital mammography
The main advantages of digital mammography are:
- Causing less pain and discomfort than conventional mammography;
- Be more appropriate for women with large or very dense breasts;
- To be more reliable in the identification of nodules with less than 1cm;
- Less radiation exposure time, since the examination is done faster;
- It allows the use of contrast to also evaluate the blood vessels of the breast;
- The result can be stored in electronic file, dispensing the printing in plates;
- Allows the printing of images on high quality paper.
However, despite all the advantages over conventional mammography, this exam is more expensive and costs about 250 reais.
