Cancidas is an injectable antifungal that uses caspofungin as an active ingredient. This drug prevents the survival of many fungi and yeasts by inhibiting the synthesis of an essential component of their cell membranes.
Indications
Invasive aspergillosis (in patients who present resistance or intolerance to other drugs)
Contraindications
Rich pregnancy C; breast-feeding; hypersensitivity to the drug; children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
Side effects
Low pressure; swelling; cardiac arrhythmia; phlebitis; tingling in the extremities; fever; chills; Headache; rash; prone to touch; lack of appetite; diarrhea; vomiting; nausea; inflammation of the mucosa; increased bilirubin; increased hepatic alkaline phosphatase; anemia; decreased hemoglobin; decreased lymphocytes from the blood; muscle pain; respiratory failure; cough; pneumonia; sweating; decreased blood potassium; increased creatinine; red blood cells in the urine. (these side effects occur in about 10% of patients)
How to use
Adults: on the first day a single dose of 70 mg; following: 50gm daily.
Elderly: There is no need for dose adjustment.
Children: efficacy and safety not established until 18 years of age.
Note: The duration of treatment should be based on the severity of the disease, recovery from the immunosuppression; and clinical response.
