Insulinoma is a tumor in the pancreas that produces too much insulin, causing a decrease in blood glucose leading to hypoglycemia.
Symptoms of insulinoma
Individuals with insulinoma may present with symptoms such as:
- Headache,
- mental confusion,
- changes in vision,
- feeling of weakness and
- mood disorders.
If left unidentified, the disease can lead to loss of consciousness, seizures, and coma.
Diagnosis of insulinoma
The diagnosis is made through blood tests that detect the amount of glucose and insulin in the blood, low glucose and high insulin levels, which indicate the presence of an insulinoma in the body of the individual. CT scans are required to know the exact location of the tumor in the pancreas.
Treatment for insulinoma
Treatment for insulinoma can be done through surgery to remove the tumor.
