Mianserin is an oral antidepressant with strong sedative action. This drug can be found commercially as Tolvon and has no generic version.
Indications
Mental depression.
Side effects
Change in blood; bone marrow depression; swelling; drop in artery pressure; breast augmentation; convulsion; hypomania crisis in patients with bipolar depression; pain in the joints.
Contraindications
Pregnancy; breast-feeding; manic phase of bipolar disorder; schizophrenia.
How to use
This medicine should be swallowed whole and never chewed.
Children : doses not established.
Adults : start therapy with 30 mg single dose at bedtime and adjust dose according to clinical response. Maintenance between 30 and 90 mg per day.
