Spraying cocoa butter can be a good solution to keep your lips moisturized and soft, fighting the dryness and cracks that may be present.
Using a colorless lipstick with FPS15 sunscreen is also a good help to protect the lips, especially on cold days or when going to expose the sun. Other good solutions to combat dry and cracked lips is to apply a thin coat of:
- Beeswax;
- Almond oil;
- Lipstick with shea butter;
- Lipstick with vitamin E;
- Vaseline;
- Lanolin;
- Olive oil;
- Slug gel, just cut the leaf and apply on the lips leaving it to act about 20 minutes;
- Bepantol cream;
- Coconut oil;
- Lard of pigs or sheep;
- Mix 1 tablespoon of virgin wax, melted in a water bath, with 1 tablespoon of almond oil and then store in a small bowl.
When the lips are again intact, without cracking, it is also recommended to exfoliate once a week. A good home-made way is to rub on the lips 1 teaspoon of honey mixed with sugar, making small circular motions. The lips should be moisturized very well with any of the above-mentioned balms.
What can make lips dry and cracked
The dryness of the lips can be caused by situations such as:
- Dehydration: It can occur by not drinking enough water, but the main cause is excessive sweating.
- Habit to lick the lips: The saliva is acidic and when it comes into constant contact with the lips it becomes dry and can become cracked;
- Cold weather: In autumn and winter the weather becomes drier and the lips can become so dry that they can peel and crack because it has no greasy cells to protect it.
- Solar exposure: It happens when the person is exposed to the sun for a long time without sun protection in the mouth, which ends up burning the lips and leaving them dry;
- Breathing through the mouth: The passage of air through the mouth further dries out the lips and these can become dry and cracked.
- During Radiation Therapy in the Head and Neck: Because the radiation tends to further remove the layer of water that protects the lips.
- Tooth paste with sodium lauryl sulfate: This substance is irritating and can leave lips parched right after brushing teeth;
- Lack of vitamin B: Ingesting little vitamin B, present in chicken, avocado, banana and beans, also favors the appearance of dry lips.
- Excess vitamin A : Consuming excessive doses of vitamin A, present in butter, cheese, eggs and carrots, can leave the lips cracked, but the skin also tends to get very orange.
- Psoriasis: The person with psoriasis is much more likely to have dry lips
- Remedies for acne, such as tretinoin;
- Wear long-life matte lipstick, which has lead in its composition;
So in addition to avoiding all these causes it is also important not to wear lipsticks 24 hours, drink plenty of water and do not wet the lips with saliva.
Lips dry and cracked in the corner of the mouth
The cheilitis is the name of the condition where a wound appears in the corner of the mouth, which becomes sore and the skin becomes very dry and even peels, making it difficult to open the mouth. This happens due to excessive growth of fungi, or bacteria, due to the habit of constantly lip licking.
A scarring ointment, indicated by the doctor or dentist, such as Omcilon, for example, may be used to combat it. Spending a little bit of aloe vera is also a great home remedy for wounding in the corner of your mouth.
