When taking oral tetracycline, it is important to take care that this antibiotic has the maximum effect, so it is important to wait at least three hours apart if you need to take antacids, iron supplements, calcium supplements, magnesium laxatives or baking soda and medicines with cholestyramine or colestipol.
During treatment with tetracycline it is also advisable to avoid exposure to the sun or ultraviolet lamps and always wear sunscreen and sunglasses because of the photosensitivity that this medicine causes.
The use of tetracycline during pregnancy and in the first 8 years of the child should also be avoided so as not to change the color of your teeth.
In the case of treatment with other drugs, tetracycline can:
- reduce the action of oral contraceptives and penicillin;
- increase the risk of renal toxicity in the case of simultaneous ingestion of methoxyflurane;
- potentiate the action of oral anticoagulants;
- increase the absorption of digoxin;
Tetracycline should be taken one hour before or 2 hours after meals.
