It is recommended that every baby sunbathe early in the morning to increase the production of vitamin D and to combat jaundice which is when the baby has very yellowed skin. However, great care must be taken because although it is beneficial for the baby to stay 15 minutes in the morning sun, infants under 6 months should not stay in the sand of the beach nor enter the sea.
After this period, baby care on the beach has to be redoubled due to the sun, clothing, food and accidents that can occur, such as burns, drowning or even disappearance of the baby.
Main baby care
The baby before 6 months of age should not go to the beach, but can take a ride in the cart at the end of the day, protected from the sun. From 6 months of age, the baby can stay on the beach with parents, on the lap or in the cart, for up to 1 hour, but parents should take some care with the baby on the beach like:
- Avoid prolonged contact with the sand and sea water;
- Avoid exposure of the baby to the sun in the period between 10am and 4pm;
- Avoid having the baby exposed to the sun more than 30 minutes;
- Carrying an umbrella, the best would be a tent, to protect the baby from the sun or put it in the shade;
- Choose a beach that does not have polluted sand or water that is not suitable for bathing;
- Use sunscreen with protection 30-50 own children, only after 6 months of life;
- Apply sunscreen, 30 minutes before sun exposure and reapply every 2 hours or after the baby gets into the water;
- Wet only the baby's foot if the water temperature is warm;
- Put hat on baby with wide brim;
- Carry extra diapers and wipes;
- Bring a heat bag with food, such as crackers, crackers, or fruit and drink potatoes, such as water, fruit juice or coconut water;
- Take toys such as shovels, buckets or inflatable pool, being careful to fill with little water, for the baby to play;
- Carry at least 2 towels for the baby;
- If possible, take a waterproof plastic exchanger to change the baby's diaper.
One important care parents need to have with babies is to never get sunscreen before 6 months of the baby's life because the ingredients of this type of product can cause a severe allergy, and the baby's skin turns very red and full of spots . This can happen simply by passing the protector and not going out in the sun, so before applying any sunscreen, talk to your pediatrician and ask your opinion about the most appropriate brand.
