Gargling made with warm water with salt, hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, vinegar, chamomile or arnica are great for inflamed throat because they have bactericidal, antimicrobial and disinfectant action, helping to eliminate the microorganisms.
And in addition, they also help to supplement the treatment for sore throat, which can be done with anti-inflammatories prescribed by the doctor, such as Ibuprofen or Nimesulide, for example. Teas and juices can also serve as home remedy, check out some teas and juices for sore throats.
Here's how to prepare each one:
1. Gargle of warm salt water
- How to do: Add 1 tablespoon of salt in 1 cup of warm water and mix well until the salt gets inconspicuous. Then put a good sip of the water in your mouth and gargle for as long as you can, spitting the water next. Repeat the procedure 2 more times in a row.
2. Gargle with chamomile
- How to do: Add 2 teaspoons of chamomile leaves and flowers in 1 cup of boiling water and keep in a covered container for at least 10 minutes. Coar, gargle for as long as possible, spitting tea and repeating 2 more times. It is recommended to make new tea every time you gargle.
3. Gargling with baking soda
- How to: Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda in 1 cup of warm water and stir well until the baking soda is completely dissolved. Take a sip, make a gargle in as much time as you can and spit, repeating 2 times in a row.
4. Gargle with vinegar
- How to do: Add 4 tablespoons of vinegar and 4 tablespoons of water into 1 cup and gargle for as long as you can, and then spit out the solution.
5. Gargarejo with hydrogen peroxide
- How to do: Add 2 tablespoons of 10 volumes hydrogen peroxide to 1 glass of water and stir for the solution to get well diluted. Then take a sip, make a gargle for as long as possible, spit and repeat 2 more times.
6. Garlic with arnica
- How to make: Add 1 teaspoon of dried arnica leaves in 1 cup of boiling water and leave covered for at least 10 minutes. Strain and gargle for as long as you can, spitting after tea. Repeat 2 more times.
The gargling that we indicate here should be done at least 2 times a day, as long as the symptoms persist. If you notice that you have pus in your throat it may be more difficult to gargle, and in that case, taking antibiotics is advised.
Children under 6 years of age may not be able to gargle properly and there is a risk of swallowing the solution, which may increase discomfort and therefore is not recommended for children under 5 years of age. Elderly and people with difficulty swallowing may also have difficulty in gargling, being contraindicated for them.
