What should be done in case of rectal prolapse, which is the exteriorization of the rectum, the last portion of the intestine, out of the anus, includes:
- Press one buttock against the other to re-insert the rectum into the anus;
- Consult a proctologist for a manual reinsertion of the rectum into the anus.
Treatment for rectal prolapse, when it is caused by constipation and intense exertion to evacuate, also includes other measures, such as the ingestion of laxative medications indicated by the proctologist, the decrease in effort to evacuate, the intake of fiber-rich foods, and of about 2 liters of water per day.
The only effective solution for prolapse, especially if it is frequent, is the surgical treatment for rectal prolapse, which involves the removal of part of the rectum and fixation of the rectum to the perineal or abdominal sac. Surgery for rectal prolapse is a simple procedure and the sooner it is done, the sooner rectum damage is prevented.
Treatment for infantile rectal prolapse usually involves the reinsertion of the rectum into the anus through the manual procedure or the compression of the buttocks because with the child's development the rectum tends to attach to the wall of the intestine and does not come out again .
